VICSES Wangaratta Unit - Relocation of unit
36 Handley Street, Wangaratta, 3677
In the 2017-18 State Budget, the Victorian Government allocated $1.6 million for the relocation of the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Wangaratta Unit from Millard Street to 36 Handley Street, Wangaratta.
The VICSES Wangaratta Unit, which comprises 31 active members, responded to more than 250 requests for assistance in 2018-19 and led the emergency services response to major flooding in the region in previous years.
The new site, which is located in an emergency services precinct alongside the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Victoria Police, will enable the Wangaratta Unit to continue to respond effectively to rescues, floods and storms and serve the local community through assistance to Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and fire services throughout the state.
The new fit-for-purpose facility reflects VICSES' commitment and dedication to the local community and enable an expansion of local services, while supporting the retention and recruitment of new volunteers.
In collaboration with the Emergency Services Infrastructure Authority, VICSES has undertaken considerable consultation with the VICSES Wangaratta Unit, as well as the local council and affected parties, to ensure that the new facility meets the needs of a growing community, now and into the future.
