Construction underway for new vessels

MSAR construction

Construction has started on purpose-built vessels for three Marine Search and Rescue (MSAR) units.

Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service is in line to receive a 12-metre Category 2 vessel which is being constructed by Stebercraft International, while a 10-metre Naiad Category 3A vessel by Kirby Marine will be allocated to both the St Kilda and Frankston Australian Volunteer Coast Guard flotillas.

The Category 2 vessel is on track to be completed by September this year, while the Category 3A vessels will both be finished by August.

All vessels will be fitted with a comprehensive communications and navigational suite that will include Class A AIS, solid state radar and a high-end stabilised FLIR.
