Point Lonsdale back beach facility secured for summer
A temporary facility for Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club will ensure visitors and locals can continue to safely enjoy one of Victoria’s most beautiful coastlines over the upcoming summer season.
Funding was announced today for the temporary lifesaving outpost on the beach to ensure the safety of locals and tourists who flock to the Point Lonsdale back beach. The temporary facility will replace the existing lifesaving outpost, which has deteriorated and is no longer suitable for lifesavers to use.
The Victorian Government’s $175,000 investment will meet all facility, resource and operational requirements for the upcoming 2019–20 season. The outpost will include first aid facilities, a patrol support room, and storage for the club’s inflatable rescue boat, all-terrain vehicle and other essential patrol items.
Point Lonsdale back beach is one of the most dangerous beaches in Victoria and it’s critical that the club and its members can safely patrol the back beach during the popular summer months.
Planning is underway for the new clubhouse, which will support the club’s growing membership, provide increased training and education programs, and opportunities for other community groups to use the new space.
